Quick entry, great experience

I recently visited Castel Sant'Angelo. It was a quick entry, no waiting or queuing in the line. The host escorted us inside, and the audio guide was really helpful for understanding the history. The view from the terrace was amazing, especially seeing the Bridge of Angels from above. I took so many lovely photos that day. I would recommend visiting this place to anyone coming to Rome.

Great time & worth the money!

We didn't know much about this castle when we booked this ticket. But after seeing the huge line at the entrance, we were glad we bought the ticket beforehand. The castle is beautiful, what a wonderful experience! Seeing all the sculptures of angels was amazing. I especially liked the central statue of the Archangel Michael. We loved the rooftop terrace and actually took a break to relax and enjoy coffee there. This ticket was well worth the money. I recommend it!

Interesting Facts

HOW CASTLE SANT’ANGELO GOT ITS NAME?

Until 590 AD, Castel Sant’Angelo was called Hadrian’s Mausoleum. According to legend, during a plague in Rome, the Archangel Michael appeared to Pope Gregory I. He lowered his sword, and the plague ended. In honor of this event, the mausoleum was renamed Castel Sant’Angelo. A bronze statue of the angel was placed on top, symbolizing protection. It remains a key feature of the castle. You can still see what are believed to be the Archangel’s footprints in the stone.

THE GHOST OF CASTEL SANT’ANGELO

Castel Sant’Angelo, which is nearly 1900 years old, has a rich history. It has served as a mausoleum, fortress, papal residence, and a prison. Many famous figures were imprisoned here, including Giordano Bruno. However, the tragic story of 22-year-old Beatrice Cenci stands out. She was accused of plotting against her cruel father. Beatrice was executed on September 11, 1599, in front of a crowd. Among them was the painter Caravaggio. Since then, many claim to see her ghost on the Bridge of Angels on September 10th and 11th. It is said that she looks down at the River Tiber.

CASTEL SANT'ANGELO IN ANGELS AND DEMONS MOVIE

Castel Sant'Angelo gained additional fame due to the film adaptation of Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons" novel. The castle served as a hideout for the Illuminati in the film.
