Named after Pope Sixtus IV, the chapel's highlight is Michelangelo's stunning ceiling. It was painted in the early 16th century. Pope Julius II commissioned Michelangelo to decorate the ceiling in 1508, and he completed it in just four years.

THE LAST JUDGMENT CONTROVERSY
Michelangelo was initially tasked with painting 12 apostles. However, he included over 300 figures in The Last Judgment. Also, Cardinal Carafa accused him of immorality for painting nude figures. This led to Daniele da Volterra covering the nudes. Today, after restoration work, the fresco can be viewed in its original form.
MICHELANGELO'S RELUCTANCE
Michelangelo resisted painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling, considering himself more of a sculptor. He was already commissioned to work on the Pope's tomb. But eventually, he agreed to paint the ceiling due to Pope Julius II's persistence.

The meeting point is at Via Mocenigo, 15 in Rome. It is about 200 meters northwest of the Vatican Museum's entrance. After descending the steps, take the first left onto Via Sebastiano Veniero. Walk straight to the end of the street. Turn right onto Via Mocenigo, where you'll find the office opposite the Cucaracha restaurant. From the Ottaviano subway station, walk west about 550 meters along Viale Giulio Cesare. Then, continue onto Via Candia until you reach Via Mocenigo. Turn left, and the office will be in front of the Cucaracha restaurant.
